Needs the project aims to address

An increasing number of cats abandoned in London, most with medical issues that need veterinary treatment. Increasing veterinary costs. Our spend is increasing, and more owners are struggling to pay for unexpected treatment for their kitties, meaning they abandon them.

Brief project description

Our project is our on-going work, as there are always kitties in need. Every year we help around 350 kitties. We take in, care for and rehome adult cats and kittens that have been abandoned or given up by owners. The cats are kept in the homes of foster carers who provide their own equipment, food and litter. L.I.C.K. is applying for funding to pay for thousands of £££ of veterinary costs that have to be paid every month. Almost all cats that the charity takes in are in need of veterinary care. Some have multiple issues and many have probably been abandoned because owners can’t or won’t pay for vet care. Although we receive a 20% discount from our vet, their prices for services have risen by at least 10% this year and lab costs for blood tests, biopsies and other investigations have soared. All our funding pays for veterinary and medicine costs except for a very small amount that pays for special foods and essential running costs like the fee for the use of our computer programme.

Summary of the main expected results:

If we consider each financial year as its own project, the results of our work are that around 350 kitties have been given a second chance. Given safe and loving homes, with warmth, cosy beds, food, clean water and medical attention when required.
